PARENTS/COACHES/ASSISTANTS

Parents - If you or your spouse would like to coach or assist a baseball, tball, softball or lacrosse team/session this spring and you have NOT had a fingerprint background check done with us you will need to get that done before coaching. Please see the note below. Please help us with this ASAP as it takes a bit for it to be processed. Coaches/assistants will only be taken from the pool of people approved by the state. These selections will begin early February.

Recreation will also be offering Rutgers Safety Training Courses for those that have not had that course. We will be doing those monthly so you will have a choice of dates. This also is needed before coaching. We will do this right here in Chatham for your convenience. If you already had this you are set.

CPR and defibrillator classes will also be held several times a month so all coaches and assts are trained . We have defibrillator units that will go back out onto the fields mid-March and we would like all our coaches/assistants trained in how to use them.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

Parents who would like to coach or assist will need to be sure they have their fingerprint background check done before the season. Coaches and assistants will be selected from that group. If you need a form to have this done, please contact Carol Nauta.

USE OF LUM FIELD

No lacrosse goals should be placed within the boundaries of the baseball and softball backstops at Lum Field.  No lacrosse goals should be placed anywhere near the Lum Field Equipment Shed.  Please do not throw lacrosse balls at either the backstops or against the equipment shed at Lum Field.  Thank you for your cooperation.

2010 SUMMER BOYS' YOUTH LACROSSE

Chatham Recreation in conjunction with the Chatham High School (CHS) Men's Lacrosse Coach, Tony Calandra, and the Cougar Lacrosse Club (CLC) will offer a summer lacrosse program in June/July 2010 for Chatham boys in present (2009/2010 school year) grades 4th thru 8th. Please see here for more details.

CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING

Please click here to view the rollout letter regarding baseline concussion testing for all those Chatham Recreation players in lacrosse who would like to participate. The program is funded through the Chatham Athletic Foundation and Atlantic Neuroscience Institute at Overlook and is free to anyone in the program. The letter has all the specifics and links to the site http://www.impacttestonline.com/atlanticneuroscienceconcussioncenter/.  When registering, there is a drop-down list that has Chatham boys/girls lacrosse. The test takes about 30 minutes and can be done online at home on a computer. The test involves recognizing patterns and reaction time and in some ways is a video game. The results are stored in the server so if a child is injured, the baseline test can be used to asses the degree of injury.

If you know of any player who does not have access to a computer and wants to be tested, please refer to me and I will arrange for the child to get tested. Please let me know of any problems. Warmest Regards, Jack Knightly, MD.
